Confessions From The Bedroom

Here are my 4 bedtime must-haves in order to have a successful sleep:

#1. A Fan/ Yes, it's true. This ginger sporting ball of fire cannot sleep without the gentle... or jet engine sounds of a fan. Why? Because that's how my parent's would keep the noise out of our rooms at night. With so many kids of so many ages, nobody had the same bedtime. Genius! It's the most comforting sound in our family.

#2. A pillow for every joint/ I've got fibromyalgia so my body can bark at me at the most ridiculously annoying times. Usually this would be at night. So, I bribe them to be good by surrounding myself in a cloud of fluffy pillows. One for my knees, one for my feet, one for my arms to hug, one for my elbows, and one for my head of course.

#3. Black/ I have to cover my alarm clock at night in order to sleep. The slightest glow from an electronic device is enough to drive me batty! If my cell phone rings during the night it's the light that wakes me up, not the ring.

#4. The Beach Boys/ When I was in high school I would listen to the cassette set of Endless Summer while I was winding down for the night. I don't know what was so relaxing about Good Vibrations, or Fun Fun Fun but it put me in the perfect mood for some good REM. I don't listen to it anymore because A. I don't know what happened to it, and B. I don't have a cassette player anymore. So basically I haven't had a perfect night's sleep in about 11 years. To cope with the lack of male harmonics in my sleepy-time regimen I have implemented breathing techniques, drinking diet coke, and blogging. So far so good.
