A few days ago I was driving down the freeway while listening to the radio. I was alone in my car, therefore the volume was cranked WAY up! It's rare, but this particular day I found myself belting out country tunes. I must have been in a sappy mood or something. One of my favorite new songs came on, and of course I started singing along. Because I take my driving very seriously, I periodically check all mirrors and blind-spots (also because I think some of the best ways to catch someone doing something embarrassing is while driving). I checked my rear view and saw that the girl directly behind me, also driving alone, was singing the exact same song I was. She was on the same station, because there wasn't even a millisecond delay! How funny, I thought. I decided to sing the song better than she could. I watched her closely to see if she knew all of the words, and when she'd pause in an obvious stump I would just get all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Poor thing, she had no idea I was kicking her trash. During one of the few times I paid attention to the road, that sneaky little punk changed lanes and... yes she did... tried to pass me. No way was I gonna become the back-up singer to this second rate! I accelerated gradually, and changed lanes to position my car right back in front of hers where it belonged. I'm certain after the 3rd or 4Th time of this happening she realized I had singled her out on the road, which is why she quickly exited the freeway before I had time to follow. What a quitter! I hate winning to a forfeit, but I really can't complain because I really did do a better job.
I'd like to thank my drivers ed teacher for graciously allowing me to pass my driving test by 2 whole points, giving me many years to practice for this big event. I'd like to thank UDOT for the obscene amount of construction zones that kept this competition at relatively comfortable stalking speeds. I'd like to thank my mamma for the reflexes that helped me multitask on this journey. And finally... Thank you to my boss who did not fire me after showing up an hour late from lunch, because I had to back-track.
Ginger,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you came out on top. That acceptance speech had me in tears. So many things to be thankful for. Good luck as you progress through the stages!
